A major consumer products company was offered patent rights for a method of recharging alkaline batteries. We were asked to verify the claims of the inventors. We designed and built an automated discharge/recharge station and ran hundreds of tests on a variety of batteries in several different applications. We found that batteries used in low-drain appliances could not be re-charged. The manufacturer cancelled the program, saving the expense of a national product rollout and avoiding damage to their reputation.
