Bias supply for optical detectors
A very low noise detector bias supply was developed to provide 0 to 100 volts, and up to 10 mA. A series pass pre-regulator filtered the input supply ripple to obtain a reasonably clean 120 volts DC, which was then passed through a 12 mA current limiter and applied to a voltage shunt regulator. DC output voltage was adjustable from 0 to 100 volts corresponding to a 0 to 1 V control input. Output noise voltage was minimized above 5 Hz using AC dominated feedback within the control loop, producing less typically 5 nV per Root Hz. Output impedance was 1 ohm. The output was short-circuit proof.
